UC Irvine's Orange County campus is built as a series of concentric circles radiating outward from Aldrich Park, its landscaped central green space, encircled by the main pedestrian route, Ring Road. About 90% of freshmen live in one of two signature residence communities, Mesa Court or Middle Earth, both anchored around the brutalist Langson Library at campus center.

UCI does not use one single move-in day for every student - your Housing Assignment email carries your own specific date, arrival time window, and check-in location, along with parking instructions. Furnished rooms already include an extra-long twin bed and mattress (38 by 80 inches), so standard twin sheets won't fit.

Move-in day tips

  • Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
  • Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
  • Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
  • Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
