The University of South Carolina Upstate is a public university in Spartanburg, part of the University of South Carolina system, founded in 1967 as the Spartanburg Regional Campus. It has a small residential community made up of Magnolia House, Palmetto House and the Palmetto Villas apartments. Full-time first-year undergraduates must live on campus unless they meet an exception, such as living with a parent or guardian within 35 miles. New residents move in on Friday, August 14, 2026, a few days before classes begin.

Fall 2026 Move-In Details

New students move in on Friday, Aug. 14, and returning students on Saturday, Aug. 15. Residents reserve a move-in appointment window using instructions sent by email. After-hours check-in at the Housing and Residential Life Office is Fri 4-6 p.m., Sat 3-5 p.m., and Sun noon-3 p.m. for students cleared for billing. Resolve any Financial Aid or Bursar issues before checking in. You can move in any time through the first day of classes without notifying the university. Bring your own cart if you can; carts are also available on campus.

Move-in day logistics

Check-in location
Main check-in is at the University Readiness Center. Arrive at the time you chose on the housing portal, follow the signs to the URC drive, and stay in your car.
Parking
Drive to your residential community (Magnolia, Palmetto or the Villas), unload and drop items in your room, then move your car to the remote parking lot. Do not park in the unloading areas around the Tree Houses or Villas until Sunday evening, and have your car in the correct lot by Monday morning. If you have more than one vehicle, line them up together with the student's car first.

Move-in day tips

  • Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
  • Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
  • Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
  • Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
