First-year students are not permitted to arrive early for any reason unless part of an approved University program with an early arrival request submitted on their behalf. Register for a Move-In Arrival Time via HomeUnderTheDome.nd.edu after housing assignments are released - detailed arrival information follows in July. Welcome Weekend for first-year students and families begins the same day as move-in and runs through Sunday, August 23.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- First-year move-in runs Friday, August 21, 2026, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. - register for your specific 30-minute arrival time slot via HomeUnderTheDome.nd.edu after housing assignments release in July.
- Check-in location
- Vehicles are directed through staging lots to your residence hall's unloading zone during your registered arrival time slot - only students with a registered time can access unloading zones while staging lots are operating.
- Parking
- After unloading, move your vehicle to one of the perimeter lots and walk back to campus - staging lot staff direct vehicles as space allows to manage traffic congestion.
- What you'll receive
- Your assigned arrival time slot and staging-lot routing instructions once housing assignments are released; a separate packing guide covers what to bring.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
