Fall 2026 Move-In Details

By appointment only - a specific 90-minute arrival window, scheduled through MyHousingPortal once your assignment posts. Students attending an Orientation session get automatic approval to move in one day before their session begins. Each student has a unique campus mailing address, available through the Housing Portal under My Assignment. If you're bringing a bike, register it with UNC Police and secure it with a U-lock.

Move-in day logistics

Residents check in at their assigned residence hall's own front desk.
Parking
Enter campus via the entrance closest to your residence hall and park in a guest parking deck or lot.
What you'll receive
You'll need a photo ID to pick up your room key at your hall's front desk.

Move-in day tips

  • Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
  • Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
  • Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
  • Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
