The University of New Mexico's Albuquerque campus, founded in 1889 and reimagined into its signature Spanish-Pueblo Revival style under third president William Tight, is anchored by Hodgin Hall, the original 1892 building saved from 1970s demolition by alumni, with new Lobos moving into residence halls including Lobo Rainforest each August.

Students approved for early move-in through the Advanced Arrival program will be assessed a $175 fee on their student account. International students must plan to arrive in Albuquerque before Aug. 13 and cannot move into campus housing early - temporary housing arrangements should be made in advance of moving into UNM Housing. Contact UNM Residence Life & Student Housing with questions.

Move-in day logistics

Arrival window
Move-in runs across three days with three appointment time slots each day (10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 12:30-3 p.m., and 3-5 p.m.), assigned by residence hall. Approved advance arrival is available a few days early for a $175 fee.
Check-in location
Most residence hall students check in via a drive-thru lane in the lot near Central and Girard, entering from Stanford and Central. Lobo Rainforest residents check in at their building's courtyard.
Parking
Park in the lot nearest your assigned building, unload briefly, then relocate your vehicle to one of the designated move-in parking areas near the residence halls. A temporary one-way, reduced-speed unloading route runs through central campus during move-in.
What you'll receive
Your LoboCard (student ID), room key, a Welcome to UNM Housing kit, and a parking permit if one was purchased in advance.
Vehicle restrictions
Only one vehicle per student receives a move-in parking pass; additional vehicles need to use metered parking elsewhere on campus.

Move-in day tips

  • Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
  • Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
  • Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
  • Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
