UCLA's Westwood campus is anchored by Royce Hall, one of the university's four original 1929 buildings and its defining architectural image, with first-year students housed in residence halls on "The Hill" - De Neve, Hedrick, Rieber, Sproul, and Sunset Village - during a four-day move-in window each September.

Fall 2026 Move-In Details

You will be assigned a specific move-in date and time in late August depending on which building you are in - room, roommate, and move-in information will be sent by the end of August. All students are assigned an unloading zone, viewable via the move-in information on the Housing Portal; True Bruin Ambassadors will help direct you and assist with unloading. UCLA operates on the quarter system, so Fall Quarter contracts begin Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026, notably later than many semester-based California schools. Your contracted meal plan begins with dinner on the day contracts start - students get 3 free meal swipes daily from the start of move-in through then.

Move-in day logistics

Check-in location
Satellite check-in stations near your assigned unloading zone, where your BruinCard is encoded for your room.
Parking
Once unloaded, you'll be directed to long-term parking with 3 hours free - if you need longer, move to one of the pay-by-space spots within the lot.
What you'll receive
Your BruinCard, encoded to serve as your room key.
Vehicle restrictions
Commercial moving vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and pods, are prohibited from parking on University property for on-campus check-in and must use designated unloading zones instead.

Move-in day tips

  • Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
  • Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
  • Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
  • Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
