Purdue University Northwest is a public university formed in 2016 by the merger of Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central. It has two campuses, the main one in Hammond, about 25 miles from downtown Chicago, and a rural branch campus in Westville. On-campus housing is on the Hammond campus only, in suite-style University Village halls (Griffin and Peregrine) and the new Calumet Hall, which opens for fall 2026 with 150 single and double beds.

First-year and transfer students move in Aug 21; returning students move in Aug 22. Bring your PNW ID or a state photo ID. Early arrival needs an approved form and costs $30 per day.

Move-in day tips

  • Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
  • Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
  • Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
  • Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
