Norwich University, the oldest of the nation's six senior military colleges and recognized as the 'Birthplace of ROTC,' welcomes incoming first-year cadets - known as 'Rooks' - to Rook Arrival Day each fall, where they begin their transition into the Corps of Cadets alongside civilian students pursuing the same academic degrees.

Arrive by 11:30 a.m. in prescribed attire per the Rook Packing List - late arrivals may prevent enrollment as a recruit. Complete all required administrative documents in the Student Portal, including a physical exam within six months of arrival, before arrival; Rook training cannot begin without medical clearance. Upon arrival, road guards direct you to the Start Ready check-in station, followed by residence hall move-in with student leaders standing by to help.

- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck; loading-zone carts run out fast.
- Parking near freshman halls fills up quickly - have a backup plan or drop-off spot.
- Loading zones usually enforce a strict time limit (often 30 minutes) before you're expected to move your car to long-term parking.
- Activate your student ID online before you arrive - many schools require it for building and elevator access from day one.
- If you want your bed lofted or the frame height adjusted, check whether your school needs that request submitted online in advance - most won't do it on the spot.
- Check your school's specific package-acceptance window before shipping anything ahead - most won't hold early deliveries outside a set date range.
