Northwestern State University is a public university in Natchitoches, Louisiana, founded in 1884 as a normal school and part of the University of Louisiana System. It sits on a roughly 916-acre campus and also has locations in Shreveport, Leesville/Fort Johnson and Alexandria. Campus housing was at full occupancy in fall 2026 across University Place I and II, University Columns and Varnado Hall. Unmarried, full-time undergraduates must live on campus if space is available, unless they qualify for an exemption, and residents must buy a meal plan.

Move-in weekend for first-year students is Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15, with fall classes starting Monday, Aug. 17. Members of the President's Leadership Program were able to move in a day early. Students and families unload vehicles and set up rooms in the residence halls.

Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
