๐ซ Public UniversityEst. 1899๐ nmu.edu
Northern Michigan University is a public university in Marquette on the shore of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, founded in 1899 as a normal school. Its athletic teams, the Wildcats, compete mainly in NCAA Division II, with men's hockey in Division I. Housing is organized in a House Model that splits large halls into Houses of about 50 to 60 students. All single undergraduates must live in the residence halls unless they meet an exemption, such as being 21 or older, living with a parent or guardian, or being a veteran.

Fall 2026 Move-In Details
Move-in starts Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026. Depending on your hall, carts or large boxes called Ulines are available, but quantities are limited and there may be a wait. Loft kits cost $100, are non-refundable and are first come, first served, with request details sent alongside your fall housing assignment by NMU email in late July or early August.
Check your assignment in the housing portal for your specific date and time.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
