Montana Technological University's Butte campus began in 1900 with just one building, Main Hall - now undergoing a $40 million renovation - and 21 students, with all first-year students under 21 required to live in one of three current residence halls: Centennial Hall, the Living & Learning Center, and Prospector Hall.

Fall 2026 Move-In Details
Orientation runs three full required days (Wed-Fri, Aug. 19-21) until 5:00 p.m. each day, with optional events the following weekend (Aug. 22-23). Housing applications submitted with a deposit before May 1 receive priority consideration for a specific hall or room request, since assignment is otherwise first-come, first-served. Pick up your Digger Card (student ID) at the Student Union Office, which can also answer any move-in or orientation questions.
Check your assignment in the housing portal for your specific date and time.
Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Orientation starts Wednesday, Aug. 19, and every new student is assigned a designated check-in time by the end of July - watch your email for it.
- Check-in location
- New students have checked in at the Student Union Building on the first orientation day, where you get your orientation schedule and are directed to residence hall move-in. Confirm the 2026 location in your check-in email.
- What you'll receive
- A furnished room with an extra-long twin mattress and bed frame, desk, chair, dresser or armoire and trash can, plus wireless internet, community laundry and kitchen facilities, and check-out of a vacuum and pots and pans. Bring your own bedding, towels and a surge protector; open-coil appliances, crockpots, candles, incense and space heaters are not allowed. Submit your photo ahead of time for your Digger Card to skip the line.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
