McNeese State University is a public university in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in the University of Louisiana System. Its housing is run with a private management company and includes suite-style halls, a private-room hall and garden apartments, and a meal plan is required for every term a student lives on campus. Fall 2025 was McNeese's largest enrollment increase in 22 years, and its residence halls were reported full that August.

Fall 2026 Move-In Details
Move-in day is Thursday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is for check-in and key pickup, and students are not required to move in that day. Lines are shorter and move faster after noon. Residents provide their own bedding, towels and a mini-fridge up to 4 cubic feet in the suites and halls.
Check your assignment in the housing portal for your specific date and time.
Move-in day logistics
- Check-in location
- Check in in front of the Housing Office on Col. Tony Polk Drive (marked #37 on the campus map). Enter from W Sale Street onto Ieyoub Family Drive and follow the signs.
- Parking
- Only one vehicle per resident is allowed in the check-in line and residence hall lots between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Overflow parking is at the southeast corner of E McNeese and Common Streets. Parking is first-come, first-served with no assigned spaces, and passes are bought through the Banner self-service portal or the cashier's office.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
