Fall 2026 Move-In Details

Choose and adjust your move-in arrival appointment in the housing portal July 1-24, 2026. Submit your Tiger Card photo before orientation so it's ready at move-in check-in. Required Residence Hall Floor Meetings (7:30-8:30pm) and the Twilight Ceremony at Memorial Tower (8:30-9:30pm) both happen the evening of Sunday, August 16 for all freshmen living on campus. Selecting an early arrival appointment on Friday, Aug. 14 adds a $200 charge to your student fee bill. Print your arrival time hang tag from your LSU email the first week of August - it's the only way into the Move-In Day staging area.

Move-in day logistics

Arrival window
Arrive at the Move-In Day staging area (via Gourrier Avenue) no more than 5 minutes before your scheduled time - early arrivals are redirected to an exit lane to wait.
Check-in location
Your specific residence hall's own unloading zone - guests begin unloading while the student goes inside to check in and receive room access.
Parking
After unloading, move your vehicle to a designated parking area elsewhere on campus that doesn't interfere with move-in routes, so the next family can use the unloading zone.
What you'll receive
Wheeled carts are available at the unloading zone (return them to the lobby afterward) - a hand truck, dolly, or wagon is also recommended, since you and your guests handle the unloading yourselves.
Vehicle restrictions
Each student may bring up to 2 vehicles - a vehicle towing a U-Haul or trailer counts as both. A third vehicle must be parked in a perimeter lot before reaching the staging area.

Move-in day tips

  • Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
  • Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
  • Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
  • Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
