Alabama A&M is a public, historically Black land-grant university in Normal, near Huntsville, founded in 1875. First-year men and women live in separate traditional and non-traditional halls, and move-in runs for three days in mid-August with building-by-building time slots. New students take part in the Bulldog Welcome Experience, a required program through early September.

Move-in runs Aug. 14 to 16 by building, with time slots (for example Terry and Thigpen halls 9 a.m. to noon, Palmer and Councill 1 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 14). Freshmen must arrive Aug. 14 or 15. A 2026-27 FAFSA and the housing application are required before move-in.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Aug. 14, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Aug. 15 and 16, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., depending on your building's time slot.
- Check-in location
- University Fitness and Recreation Center, where staff verify check-in, hand out keys and direct you to your room.
- Parking
- Only personal vehicles go through check-in; small trailers are fine. Moving trucks and large trailers are not permitted.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
